Adapt outdated processes as your business evolves.
Being a small business owner or solo professional, you may have many procedures and processes in place. You may also have many externally facing marketing tools, like your website and LinkedIn profile.
It becomes easy over time to look at them without really seeing them. It may become a problem when your business expands. With this in mind, here are three ways how I keep an eye on my work.
1. Question Past Decisions. Decisions that we made years ago may no longer apply today. Better software solutions get created all the time. There might be an easier or less expensive solution available now.
2. Look closely at parts of your business right in front of you. Do a scan of your business. You may be taking it for granted. If you have a presentation coming up that you have done numerous times, look at it closely one more time. Check your website to ensure all the buttons and links work as they should.
3. Know that the buck stops with you. I’ve heard many times from Clients. “I don’t know how that works.” And “so and so set it up for me.” That’s ok. I don’t expect you to know how to set up or modify it. When you outsource, please learn what is supposed to happen. Document it. This is so you can check on it again.
When running your business, it can be easy to fall into a comfortable groove, which can be good. Could you make sure your eyes remain open?
Itís hard to find educated people in this particular topic, but you seem like you know what youíre talking about! Thanks
