Clients often ask, “Joanne, what should I do myself, and what can I hand off to a virtual assistant?”
It’s an everyday struggle, especially when your to-do list feels endless.
That’s why I created a quick delegation checklist for my clients. It makes decision-making much easier.
Here’s the simple way I break it down:
1. Tasks You Should Handle Yourself.
Anything high-level or strategic: business planning, big-picture marketing decisions, or client strategy.
Do tasks that require your unique voice or expertise, such as sales copy, coaching, or client calls.
Keep sensitive or confidential tasks to yourself.
Think of these as things only you can do because of your knowledge, authority, or personal touch.
2. Tasks You Can Delegate.
Delegate administrative tasks, including scheduling, email, data entry, and follow-ups.
Delegate content work, post on social media, make graphics, and send newsletters.
Research and prep work: compiling lists, booking venues, and creating spreadsheets.
3. The Quick Test.
If you’re ever unsure, I use this question:
“Will this task move my business forward, or is it just maintenance?”
If it’s maintenance, it’s perfect for delegation.
Why can’t I live without this checklist?
It’s a tiny tool, but it transforms how clients and I approach delegation.
Clients gain confidence in making decisions, overwhelming to-do lists become more manageable, and everyone’s energy shifts toward bigger goals.
