Combat disorientation when work is slow.
I enjoy being at maximum capacity often. When my business slowed down earlier this year, I wasn’t sure what to do.
My first thought was to take this temporary time and improve my business by looking closely at my operations.
If you are interested in doing this, here is what I recommend.
1. From the outside, look at your business. Have you listened to your voicemail? Does it sound friendly? Does your email signature include your phone number?
2. Review your LinkedIn profile.
Is your profile picture up-to-date and professional? Is your information up-to-date? If you have been considering asking for recommendations, do it now.
3. Publish past content.
Take the necessary steps now to add your newsletter to your website if you have not yet done so.
4. Take steps to clean up “tolerances.”
Those annoying little things you put up with. Are you having trouble finding the phone numbers of your clients? Do you not have your supplies near your desk? Do you have a stack of papers that you have ignored for months? It is worth taking the time to deal with all these little annoyances.
5. Get your desk organized.
Organize your desk by removing everything and cleaning it thoroughly. You only need to place back what’s needed.
6. Make a review of your finances.
Why wait to organize your taxes and expenses? Keep them up-to-date.
7. Make plans for your next big project.
There’s no time to waste. Take the plunge.
When you are used to being at capacity, a little downtime can be disorienting. So take a moment to relax. Take advantage of the opportunity to expand your business when you are ready.
