Control your work schedule instead of letting it manage you.
I spoke with a friend the other day. Our conversation revolved around maintaining our sanity while running a business and caring for our families.
During our discussion, we also discussed how we manage client interactions to ensure everything runs smoothly.
Here are some tips that may prove helpful.
1. Choose your working hours.
I don’t have to reply to a client’s email immediately if it comes in late at night or over the weekend. Working for myself allows me to set my hours. It doesn’t bother me if they email me out of hours; it just means THEY are putting work in my direction, which I am grateful for.
2. Utilize technology.
I use an email delivery tool when I want to deliver an email at night or on a weekend. By scheduling emails, I can send them at specific times. As a result, I can remain “under the radar” while being productive. By doing so, I can email my clients whenever it’s convenient for them.
3. Establish a clear understanding of expectations.
I always let a new client know when I am available before we start working together. Work hours are generally between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. I check my emails during these hours. My goal is to respond to all emails within 24 hours. As well as keeping my clients informed of any delays. I always keep them updated. I will call my clients as soon as possible if an emergency happens.
The result is simple.
As a result, the client knows what to expect, while I can still spend time with my family and friends.
